I’m used to doing something new.
In 2019, it was SOLRAD, the online literary magazine for comics. In 2021, it was Clutter: A Scatterbrained Sexual Assault Memoir, the first print book from Fieldmouse Press. Now, it’s sequential.li, a new blog/newsletter platform.
It’s the first time I’ve had my own personal writing space on the web since 2019. I’ve been writing for the web for over 20+ years, and the gap between my last work and this is the longest I’ve gone without having a formal writing outlet. I shuttered Sequential State to focus on publishing SOLRAD in 2019, and I ran SOLRAD as the publisher until 2023, when I accepted the role of Publisher for Fieldmouse Press and moved my focus to our print projects. My last written review was October 2024.
It’s good to be back.
Over the last six months, I’ve been feeling the need to get back to writing. Not having a place to communicate in long form, the way I started on the internet, has been stifling. But I’ve found that I want to write about more things and in different ways; I want to talk about the challenges I have faced (and continue to face) as a publisher, the things I’m interested in seeing more of (or less of) in the independent comics scene, and the comics and other books I’m reading.
I’ve decided to launch a newsletter on Beehiiv as a way to “meet people where they’re at,” and because, well, it’s the new thing. Also, I didn’t want to start a Substack, because, you know, the Nazis. I’d really love for you to subscribe to the newsletter. My goal is to publish something “regularly,” although I don’t have a good sense what that means yet. I have material in the works for the next few weeks.
Anyway - welcome. I hope we can spend a little time together. I’m looking forward to being here (and in your inbox) very soon.
